about
When english poet Simon Gibbons sat in a train to London he observed a business man with a haunted, hunted face ... so he grabbed his pencil and wrote these words down. I tried to bring his poem to music ...
lyrics
Magic, Tribes and Loss
I met a man in an Armani suit, clutching a coded case.
I met a man in an Armani suit, with a haunted, hunted face.
What is it that ails thee?
And to me came his reply
I have lost all of The Magic, and I’ve lost my tribe.
The old hunter sat by the fire
And told the stories of creation
To his children and his children’s children,
Told the stories to the Fire ,
To the Earth and to the Sky
And to the Water.
How all things came to be
And were held in balance by the Magic.
How else could the sun fall from the sky
Only to rise again
If it were not carried through the darkness of the underworld
On the magic boat
Rowed by the seven Magic rowers?
Every night he sat and told the stories
And time passed.
And time passed
And men built a roof between their heads and the sky
And a stone floor between their feet and the earth
And the water fixed in a metal jacket
The fire was hidden away,
And men forgot to tell the stories of the beginning.
Forgot to tell the stories to their children and to their children’s children.
And because man had done these things
The Magic hid its face in the underworld
And slept on the boat with the seven Magic rowers,
And the children wandered and could hear no more
And were lost.
I met a man in an Armani suit, clutching his useless coded case.
I met a man in an Armani suit, with a haunted, hunted face.
What is it that ails thee?
And to me came his reply,
I have lost all of The Magic, and I’ve lost my tribe.
